The NCCCS also has articulation agreements with the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU). These agreements ensure that students who transition from the WPCC to a 4-year-old institution receive full recognition for classes. With an Associate of Arts (AA) degree or an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree, students with junior status can be transferred to one of the 16 institutions in the NCICU UNC system and many subsidiaries. AATP works through the Global Articulation Agreement (CAA) for schools in the University of North Carolina system and the Independent Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (ICAA) for independent colleges and universities in North Carolina to enable transfer with junior status for graduates with the degree. Graduates must receive a grade of “C” or better in each course and an overall average of at least 2.0 on a scale of 4.0 to advance to junior status. Courses can also be transferred through bilateral agreements between institutions. Western Piedmont Community College and Appalachian State University (ASU) have an articulation agreement that allows students to transfer to ASU and receive a bachelor`s degree in interdisciplinary studies with the opportunity to work as a student interpreter on campus. Western Piedmont Community College and Gallaudet University have entered into an articulation agreement that allows WPCC students to transfer to Gallaudet, the only university in the world designed to be accessible to deaf and hard of hearing students. About 2,000 community college students transfer to one of North Carolina`s 36 independent colleges each year. The revised CIAA, updated from the previous articulation agreement signed in 2007, will come into effect for new students transferred to the college in the fall of 2015 at the undersigned colleges and universities. The NCICU Board of Directors approved the revised ICAA at its annual meeting in March 2015, and the State Council of Community Colleges formally adopted the revised Articulation Agreement in May 2015. WPCC offers 4 college transfer pathways and 23 technical vocational training pathways to help students begin their career goals. College courses that earn 3 or more credit hours count as a high school credit, and many classes can replace mandatory high school courses. All CCP classes and grades are displayed on a high school student`s transcript and calculated as a cumulative grade point average and class rank. College transfer courses receive the same GPA weight as Advanced Placement (AP) courses (up to 5 weighted points). All other adult education courses are not weighted.
